Political Discussions

I am Thai, female and lived in the west while I was growing up and was totally influenced by western concept of beauty, big eyes, chisel nose and fair skin. This means in my own eyes I could never perceive myself as beautiful.

I know I'm not the only one and now in my forties, I see the younger generation still striving to change their genetic make up just to be westernised. Conscious or not, still a recipe for years of hangups and self abuse!

So lets redefine what we mean by BEAUTY. I will be blogging the result of this discussion so please give this a thought.

At the end of the day, is beauty subjective or abstratc?

    Beauty is self confidence

My Mother taught me a fundamental self-truth. If you don't like yourself, how can you expect anyone else to like you? That has stuck with me and I strive to instill that in my children.

So I guess you could say that I am agreeing with xmarks on this one.

Both. Studies have shown that some aspects of beauty (like proportion) are universal throughout cultures and times while others (like size) change with era. Inner beauty, though, and its manifestations in terms of posture, mannerism, et cetera are universal.

I agree. In fact, I love all chocolate equally because of its inherent inner beauty. And because it tastes so damn good...
