United States Triumphs Over El Salvador

Sports news | 13 days ago by steve

Tampa, FL – Just when it appeared the United States was heading to their own downfall in front of 21,737 with a 1-1 tie against El Salvador, Sacha Kljestan saved the U.S. from further embarrassment with his go-ahead goal in the second minute of stoppage time. For at least one night, there was ecstasy at the Raymond James Stadium because a football team not named the Tampa Bay Bucs won. In a game where the U.S. out-shot El Salvador 18-3, dominated them defensively and was aggressively able to push the ball at will, a tie would not have been sufficient. The U.S. has yet to earn the pass to lose in friendly matches like Brazil, Italy, and Spain have. Let’s be honest, a loss in a friendly match is just as bad as a loss in the World Cup because the consequences are the same. Anytime the U.S. loses, more soccer fans lose interest in American Soccer and Major League Soccer. This was a game that the U.S. should have scored at least three goals in, but missed opportunities hindered the U.

USA DEFEATS EL SALVADOR WITH LATE GAME HEROICS

Soccer Jones | 13 days ago by Spencer Warne

After going down 1-0 only 15 minutes into the second half, the U.S. turned it around with two late second-half heroic goals tonight in Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. While this match was just a friendly, many would argue that a number of the USA players were giving it one last shot as Bob Bradley is making his final decisions on the World Cup 2010 roster. Assisted by Heath Pearce, Brian Ching netted a driving header past El Salvador’s Miguel Montes in the 75th minute. Later, two minutes into extra-time, Sacha Kljestan was assisted by Ching for the game-winning goal.  Kljestan intercepted a pass from El Salvador’s defense and dished off a pass that would be immediately returned from Ching for the score. The U.S. was a little unlucky with some chances to finish tonight.  This was partly due to some phenomenal saves by Montes, as well as some poor shooting by USA. For a late substitution, Ching had quite the impact on tonight’s match.  After a game-tying goal an

The 90th Minute | 13 days ago by Jonathon Feyerherm

The United States played a friendly against El Salvador on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. It was a chance for USA manager Bob Bradley to give Major League Soccer players a chance to prove themselves. While many of the spots will go to European based players, there are still a few left to MLS based players. The match was in Tampa, Florida at Raymond James Stadium. United States 2-1 El Salvador – Video Highlights (will be added soon) The United States were the better team in the first half but couldn’t score. Despite having the better chances, the United States couldn’t get a lead as it remained scoreless at halftime. The second half was more of the same but a defensive mistake in the 59th minute would give the lead to El Salvador. It was a long ball played in and headed towards goal by Brad Davis bu

Ybor City . Tampa

Future Gringo | 14 days ago by james

Most big city loving transit oriented folks like myself don’t think of Tampa as a respected destination.  I’ve been there before and the sum of my knowledge is the location of the airport, my hotel, and which causeway is quickest to Clearwater when I need to upgrade my E-Meter.  I know where Raymond James Stadium is only because it’s quite difficult to miss. But within Tampa is Ybor City, a historical walkable neighborhood with a rich past, unexpected architecture and great food – and it’s linked to transit via a streetcar if that counts. Ybor City is a primarily Cuban influenced neighborhood just east of downtown Tampa.  This was the home and cultural hub in the late 1800s for Cuban, Italian and Spanish immigrants.   Cigar manufacturers did booming business in huge brick warehouses. Smoke billowed from the stacks, fellas played cards on the wooden porches along 7th Avenue and cars shared the brick streets with the trolleys. Life went swimmingly unt
