I'm an ecology graduate, natural therapist, teacher and writer, living in Devon, England with a long-suffering husband and two pampered cats. To my regret, I had to retire from teaching at the ripe old age of 39 due to the health problems associated with M.E. At my worst, I was unable to bathe myself or raise my head from the pillow - I could barely talk. Although I am still a long way from recovery, through learning to pace myself and changing my habits, I am now able to write every day and am actively pursuing my writing goals. So, have my life aspirations changed since developing ME/CFS? The short answer is no, although I realise some will have to wait. I still want to complete a PhD, find a publisher for my children's stories (My Grandfather Abener/The Secrets of Chaw Gully), learn to ride and play the piano, visit the Brazilian Rainforest to see the remaining wild Golden Lion Tamarins...oh what the hell - I want to learn to sing, speak Russian, paint, weave willow baskets, see the sunrise over the Serengeti and learn the intricate art of raqs sharqi (belly dancing)...how many years have I got?
