Sheilah Brooks was born in New Rochelle, New York and raised in Mount Vernon, New York. A background in voice, she played at many New York City night clubs. When a call back for the musical Rent didn’t lead to a career on Broadway, Sheilah made a decision. Looking for a change, she decided to relocate to California in 1999 to pursue a writing career.
Her first writing gig was working for the company, Levine Communications, an award winning public relations firm in Beverly Hills before branching off into freelancing, writing and editing for magazines such as Rapport, LA Focus, Turning Point and Dysonna, The Fashion Magazine.
Brooks decided to focus more on creative and screenwriting and in 2004 wrote and directed her first short fiction film titled, Too Much Pride in which she was awarded” best fiction” writing by Cerritos College. She also co-wrote the short-film Spin which was recently awarded the Global Arts Film Festival Award for Best Short Film – Screenwriting.
In 2006, Sheilah was accepted into the School of Film and Television at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles majoring in screenwriting and in 2007 won a scholarship from the Arts Council of Film and Television at Loyola.
Ms. Brooks is a member of Faithful Central Bible Church in Inglewood and volunteers in the media department as a Technical Director. She recently finished her first full-length feature, Close-Up and is working on her first fiction novel.
Sheilah’s vision is to take each writing piece she creates and mold it--eventually turning it into a lyrical piece of art. And to take those black and white lines with trust that it will make it in front of a producer’s eye, then to a director’s vision-- ultimately reflected through a camera’s light.
