I am the Denver correspondent of The Thrifty Chicks. Aside from grocery stores, my family (husband and two daughters) mostly shop in thrift stores from housewares to clothing. I shop mostly the downtown stores. I always buy vintage mirror trays; Kokeshi, Hakata & nesting dolls; Moulinex; Graniteware; natural fiber yarn; & quality sportswear for hiking & skiing. I collect copper cookware, enameled cookware, handkerchiefs, & vintage children’s books. My best scores include a Pottery Barn sofa sleeper for $250 (around $2,500 retail); new Black Dog Rise mukluks for $10 ($350 retail); vintage Flexible Flyer sled for $5 (the fastest sled we own, priceless); & several new copper double boilers, $7 ($70 retail). I have probably saved over $5,000 in 2008.

I love hiking & camping with my family in the Colorado Rockies; gardening (I get it honest from my grandmother who has a day lily named after her); community gardening (I’ve even learned to like gooseberries); gathering moss; reading children's literature & building a children's library for my family with over 1,000 titles.

Being a mother has made me a Jane of all Trades.
