Well written and enjoyable. I don't agree on everything, but, I *want* to. Well done. Solid 93/100.

While I disagree on every philosophical point, author provides smart, op-ed-type commentary with which I am now going to go argue. Much better than average, but not great. Again, I wish Blogcatalog had a 1-100 rating system. 83/100

Much content is merely repost. Author fails to add much original insight. Site ends up feeling inane and author comes off as self-aggrandizing. There are some interesting and provocative assertions in between other-people's stuff and author's fluff, (e.g. "[C]onfirming judges is one of a small handful of issues where party unity truly matters,") but author fails to present even badly reasoned support. I can hear somebody asking rhetorically, "Am I right?" More than anything, I'm disappointed.

"Is Glenn Beck an Intellectual?" reads like stream of consciousness: long and rambling. Author writes at length about evolution of own thoughts and fails to create a tight argument. As I read a long excerpt from the Washington Post, I wonder, "Why oughtn't I to read the Post instead?" This, however, isn't the worst of it. Despite evidence presented, author fails to draw important conclusions and, as such, appears a dull parrot of others who adds nothing to the discussion. That Beck might be not-just dangerous but 'very' dangerous is hardly new and less shocking. I check the comments. Some are relevant. None draw me in. Disheartened, I cannot go on. My suggestion, read the Post. It's a good paper.

  • ARRA News Service

Having read, "Today in Washington D. C. - Oct 14, 2009 - Harry Reid To Write Final Senate Health Bill," I didn't have high hopes. I think it's supposed to be "fair and balanced" but words like "Obamacare" belie neutrality. The next post, "Oh. Canada?! - Going to U.S. for Health Care - Socialized Healthcare Stinks!" is just detrimental. Instead of promoting a better alternative, the author takes a pot shot at Canada while he promotes fear over reason. What is his solution to the problem of US healthcare? I guess he doesn't have any good ideas. If he does, why's he being so stingy with them. "Albany apartment complex bans American flags - Update: Flags Okay Again" must play to his audience, which should be everybody. Everybody should love the US flag; right? He's probably right on the money there. But, "Obama - Education - Children - What Are Those Educational Plans?" is myopic, narrow minded, and, again, fear inspiring. On the other hand, it made me think for reasons that the author probably didn't imagine.

  • Freedom Writing

"Freedom Writing" reads more like free writing. "No More Hurrahs for Hillary" is inane and wordy. What follows in "Still Waiting for Change We Can Believe In" is as original as toast and much less interesting. (Mm... toast.) I fail to see what "Free Writing" contributes to public discourse. Look elsewhere.

  • The Pink Flamingo

Can this person have written books as she asserts? The Pink Flamingo is largely unoriginal, and, that's the best part.

"Own Worst Enemy: The Story Of The Democrats And Health Care Reform," is a long rambling piece in desperate need of editing. Lack of choices and very obvious errors detract from the point (and some need not because the correct information is neutral or bolsters the author's argument). "Seven People Who Should've Existed" made me cringe. It's edgy, angry, irreverent, but, it's not funny. Instead, it comes off as crude. Continued reading is no better. But, worst of all, I can't find the "comment" option in the footer or the header of the posts, which leads me to believe that there is none. Is this a blog or a mediocre news letter? Unfortunately, it's a lot better than most blogs, and, I'll probably be back to see if a comment button makes it onto the page: the author has some good ideas, and, I'd like to give him a piece of my mind.

Right-wing Republican stuff. Opinion. Dearth of fact. Bad logic and unjustified conclusions. Not much to read here that I can't read about elsewhere. Gets an "E" for effort though. The stuff about donating blood was very pithy. Unfortunately, older posts fail.

  • Deanna's Ramblings

    Tuesday October 13th, 2009 at 16:06 | Rating: 4 | Report

Blog seems to consist of short timely posts that are provocative and suggest relative depth -- depth that I would like to know more about. That the author has chosen to write snippets on a multitude of topics rather than to explore any one topic in depth may actually be an asset. I'll probably be back.

  • Political Philosophy

    Tuesday October 13th, 2009 at 15:35 | Rating: 2 | Report

I must wonder about the reviewers (see below) who give this blog such high marks. Certainly, I have been contacted any number of times by other Blogcatalog members who agreed to give me a rating if I would give them a rating... I couldn't make it through the first post, which reads in parts like gibberish. Consider the following: "Politics as part of the universe are intolerant to power vacuum and the absence of a proper democratic institutions based on an economy driven by private property." Skip it.

  • The National Republicrat

    Tuesday October 13th, 2009 at 14:54 | Rating: 4 | Report

Author writes very short, clear opinion pieces related to timely news. Interesting and with merit. On the other hand, short posts amount to little more than adequately written statements of opinion. [Hey, Blogcataglog, I really wish I could award on a 1-100 scale.] I give it a 75, which is still miles away from the average blog. Worth checking out. Maybe people will stop by and the author can get a good conversation going.

  • Global Integrity Commons

    Tuesday October 13th, 2009 at 14:28 | Rating: 4 | Report

On the plus side, the site features interesting and diverse news items with links. Summaries are short and lucid. On the downside, the site could have more links. Moreover, I want something else out of a blog. That is, while the thesis is interesting and the site covers a range of timely topics, I didn't see a lot of analysis or comments just news. Pretty good. I'll probably be back.

"The Aaron Brazell Train Keeps Rolling" reads like a junior-high-schooler's diary entry. The author actually writes "[The post is a] Sort of a braindump of sorts". Really? It's sort of a thing of sorts. Yeah. I bet it is. I'm laughing... without you. "The Aaron Brazell Train..." must be a fluke, I thought. I read on. Another snippet... I clicked through to "Regarding Civil Liberties". Though titled in the manner of an important work, it reads like a huffy-puffy, school-child's tantrum. Look elsewhere.

I cannot understand why this local, political operative's blog ranks at the top of Blogcatalog's list of political blogs... Way to go?
