I am Betsy Cross, an independent jewelry designer originally from VA. I opened my Portland jewelry studio in March 2008, and just 9 months later, I am selling worldwide.
All of the jewelry is designed and hand-crafted by me in Portland. Many of the focal pieces I use are found items, vintage or vintage reproduction. I am very inspired by mixing the old with the new to create something wildly unexpected. I push style boundaries with size and scope, while remaining affordable and accessible. This mission allows me to reach a wide, incredible audience. My designs can be found in all sorts of independent boutiques, from higher end stores who might cater to an older audience to shamelessly hip underground indie stores.
I consider my business name, betsy & iya, a reflection of my work-- which is, as Jessica Wallenfels from PDX Magazine coins, "a study in contrasts". Some of my other designs include reclaimed material, such as old curtain rod holders and door numbers. I also make a high end line of stunning fairly-mined Peruvian opals.
