As a stay at home mother of two young boys (ages 4 and 1) there is no shortage of opportunities for me to consider how my values and actions affect this great planet which they will inherit. I understand how Eve, the first woman created, must have felt in her compulsive curiosity and desire to know the truth of all things. Today, the honest details of many aspects of our daily lives are hidden from us. Who can see clearly the effort involved and affects thereof concerning our everday choices: what to eat, what to buy, what to use? While once a garden paradise, our Earth has endured much abuse at our hands and experts are beginning to agree with biblical scholars that the “end” of our time here could be closer than we think. I’ve never been one for doom and gloom prophesies however, so instead we’ll call it the “beginning” of a new age for humanity.

There are countless changes we can make to our daily routine that will help us collectively welcome the “end” of this age and make way for the new age, or Peace On Earth also biblically predicted. One very effective way to make change happen quickly is the “vote with your dollars approach”. I for one, think shopping should be fun! But the fulfillment of the gathering instinct is often overshadowed by the hidden costs of our consumer driven capitalistic paradigm. So, in the service of other caregivers (and you all are) I offer my acquired knowledge in the field of conscious consuming.

Each week I will be posting a wealth of information on the products that I use and buy for my family. When your kid needs a new pair of shoes, do you think about the children who might have been exploited in making them? When you purchase a water bottle, do you wonder what kind of chemicals might leached into your drink? When it’s time for a new winter coat, would you support a company that gives back to the planet? Do you wish there were more fashionable organic clothes? Do you wonder if any beings were harmed in the making of your cosmetics? Would you love to buy beauty products that come highly recommended by someone with obsessively high standards? If you are like me, you care about the impact of the items bring into your home. This blog is for you, welcome!

In addition to my weekly rants, I plan to post eco-product ratings. Each product will be rated on quality, performance, price, material composition, sustainability in manufacturing, packaging, recycling ability, and company values such as social responsibility. (Provided this much information is available!)

This information has been gathered personally by me in my quest to know the truthful details about the products and companies and values that my dollars support. I hope you find it useful!

I know we are connected, you and me. I’m thinking of you when I sort the recycling, hang out the laundry or choose vegan meals. When I wash the diapers, I’m glad to do my part to ensure that your kids too inherit less baby poo in their landfills. When my kids both try to pile in to my bath, I’ll let them in order to save water for us all.
