I'm a freelance writer who lives outside of Greensboro, N.C., in the Appalachian foothills with my best friend and dearling Bill. I'm the mother of two caring and truly good young men named Sam and Noah. I've been living with fourth-stage (metastatic) breast cancer since 2001. I'm an advocate for the role of story and narrative in peacemaking and healing and up until January 2008 published an international newsletter called The Storyteller and the Listener Online that attracted thousands of readers every month. I finally gave it up so that I could focus more on several aims closer to home -- genealogical research, work within my Quaker meeting, and involvements with the home burial movement here in the North Carolina Piedmont. I'm also serving this year as a community columnist for the Greensboro News-Record. I choose themes each year that guide my choices and actions, and my theme for 2008 is "gentleness."
