  • Dan Curtis - Professional Personal Historian

    Wednesday November 11th, 2009 at 16:31 | Rating: 5 | Report

I like Dan's quote from Mark Twain: "There was never yet an uninteresting life. Such a thing is an impossibility" True. It may not always seem so to me, I have to admit that, but nothing is without purpose or without meaning. Nothing is not worth preserving and keeping it alive for those who would want to know.

  • The Business Ethics Blog

    Thursday October 29th, 2009 at 03:10 | Rating: 5 | Report

I don't know who coined this phrase or whether I am actually reciting it correctly, but the saying is that if you take care of your customers, your customers will take care of you, i.e. your bottom line. For sure, without business ethics, there isn't going to be much bottom line in the long run. There's a vast reservoir on business ethics on Chris' blog, and most articles are well-commented, too, showing a truly engaging blog. Indeed, the Business Ethics Blog is definitely worth reading, bookmarking, and coming back to.

I've always been fascinated with history which was my favorite subject at school. Even today my bookshelf features several encyclopedias of history, and reading this blog brought back so many memories.

  • Survivor: The PhD Years

    Thursday October 15th, 2009 at 03:53 | Rating: 5 | Report

This is a blog about surviving a PhD program and coming out alive on the other side, written by Gwen Nelson, who describes herself as a PhD survivor, Mom, sometime professor, and aspiring author. I can attest to the latter; her blog truly shows her love of writing. Remembering my own encounters with other academics (and alas, their blogs) they do not always come across as particularly funny or witty, but Gwen is. As a former graduate student and professor in spe myself I felt at home immediately. The blog posts are small anecdotes from her life as a previous graduate student and now professor. In fact, many ancedotes are geared directly towards (her) students and contain tips on what to do (e.g. how to skim a book or paper for useful information) and what not to do (e.g. don't plagiarize). There's even a category for 'Horror Stories' from campus. My favorite is the story about a scary guy in the library, definitely not someone you expect to meet in a public library.

  • WWI Student Project

    Thursday October 15th, 2009 at 03:44 | Rating: 5 | Report

Those were the days. When planes were real planes, flown by real men. And when flying really felt like flying like a bird, without the high-tech and with all the elements right in your face, literally. I'm not much of mechanic myself, and I would be more likely to break the plane than make the plane, if I were in on this project, but I have to give it to these guys, they appear 100% dedicated to their planes. I would not be able to blog this enthusiastic about an 80 amp in-line fuse.

  • Lunar Landing Hoax

    Thursday October 15th, 2009 at 03:42 | Rating: 5 | Report

I was too young in 1969 to remember the lunar landing and Neil Armstrong's famous words. Space Shuttle missions have become boringly routine now, but I'm still fascinated with the first spaceflights and how they pulled it off. I mean, the laptop I'm writing this comment on probably has more computing power than all the computers in the Apollo flight control center altogether. This is a great blog. What I like about is how each Apollo mission has it's own section with lots of trivia - and facts - and debunking of popular myths. I spent many hours on the Lunar Landing Hoax, getting lost in the trivia, the tidbits of this and that, the myths and the technical facts, and I almost forgot that I was supposed to do something else. Be warned, this site can be addictive.

  • Supply Chain Management

    Saturday September 19th, 2009 at 14:34 | Rating: 4 | Report

The About pages say that this is "A site dedicated to the supply chain and everything around it. The goal is to be an information portal that can attract both beginners and experts alike and lead the way towards better understanding of supply chain management for everyone involved in the field." It definitely is what it says and I hope it continues to develop the way it has started.
