Joseph Lyon Layden was born in Savannah, Ga. and grew up in Richmond Hill, Ga. As a child he was deeply into writing, role-playing games, exploring wooded areas, football, boxing, and weight lifting. He graduated from Savannah Christian Preparatory School in 1990, and later attended Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Joseph has a large amount of experience in the entertainment industry, and has played everywhere from Savannah to Amsterdam with various blues, jazz, funk, hip-hop, and rock groups. He has played such giant festivals as The Jazz Below the Sea Festival in Almere, Holland (6,000 people) and the Atlanta Jazz Festival (15,000 people). He has played with such international artists as Rosa King, Saskia Laroo, and Dr. Dan Matrazzo as well as nationals Kristina Beaty , Jacey Falk, Chrisie Santoni, Eric Culberson and several others, and has shared the bill with such stars as Medeski, Martin, and Wood, DeeDee Bridgewater, Sheila E., Terence Blanchard, Russel Gunn, Sonny Rollins, Chucho Valdez, and many others. As a journalist and writer, Joseph has written for Creative Loafing, Connect Savannah, Savannah Online, The Charleston City Paper, Asheville's Mountain Xpress Magazine, Richmond Hill Reflections Magazine, Contents Magazine, and many others. He has written music editorials and interviews on everyone from Judy Collins to Willie Nelson, and currently runs a bi-monthly story (usually about area businesses and developements) in Richmond Hill Reflections Magazine.
Joseph studied music, literature, and psychology at Armstrong Atlantic State University, loves to tell a story, loves to write, and is deeply curious about current, past and future events as well as metaphysical subject matter.
