For years I’d been writing this story about my life. You couldn’t really say it was a novel because it was in so many parts. There were major gaps but I kept feeding this project of mine in notebooks and journals.
It occurred to me one day that I could create different blogs for each location my life story took place in. I created a Las Vegas blog, a Madrid blog, and a family history blog for my alter ego.
Why do I read web fiction? Because I write it. Because I’m interested in the presentation of it and the labyrinthine possibilities of it. When I find a fiction blog that juggles multimedia and fiction, that inherently understands this new art form, I read it. When I find a fiction blog that builds an interactive bridge with its audience, I read it.
In reading web fiction, the author has invited me into her world-in-progress. As the storyteller spins her yarn, I am there, listening, commenting on the shape and direction of the story. And there is the hubbub of voices all around the text, competing like mice for a piece of cheese.
