I’ve always been told that I have a creative mind and a sarcastic sense of humor, so I decided to convey the two quirky traits through a blog that shared my thoughts on the current state of the environment.

I admit that I’m still learning about the green movement every day, but I try my best to do what I can to protect the only home we’ve ever had…and ever will have.

When I was younger I used to scour the woods for cans to recycle. Yes, a perk was that I got paid for each bagful of cans I collected, but an even better payment I received in my adult years was the realization that we are a wasteful society, and that we need to start reusing this waste before we end up knee deep in it.

It took an economic fuel crisis of global proportions to get people to realize that there are alternative methods for gas, but I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of alternative energy. The sun, wind and water are limitless, so why not use them to make the future of humanity also limitless?

Finally, I’m reading Alan Weisman’s book The World Without Us, and it’s an amazing exploration into a future without humans. Here’s what I get out of it:

* Without humans, farmed plants would die because we would not cultivate them, but wild plants would thrive in areas that were not industrialized because there would be no pollution.
* “Domesticated” animals would probably not survive because they would not have basic survival skills for the wild, but species that are endangered would be able to repopulate peacefully and bring more beauty to the world.
* In remote areas around the world there are stretches of land that have not been taken over by humans. The air is crisp, the water is clean and everything thrives with life. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a place like that in my life.

Kind of gets you thinking, huh?

This blog is my quest to learn more the environment, whether it’s fact-based in the news or humor-filled in popular culture.

Most importantly, I don’t just want to learn about the environment, I want to do something for it.

I truly believe that one person can make a small difference.

So please enjoy my blog, Pop Goes Green, and see what “pops” out at you.
