I am a recovering attorney currently working as a software developer. I write this blog from my home near Jackson, Mississippi. I converted to Catholicism in 1998. I started this blog because I was frustrated with the GOP's failure to stand up for conservative principles.
I grew up in the '80's, and I remember how the liberals hated Ronald Reagan. They were convinced that Reagan's defense initiatives would result in World War III and the end of the world. The only thing that ended was the Soviet Union's domination of Europe. Millions of people enjoy freedom today because of conservatism. They would still be in chains if we had followed the path of Carter and Mondale.
The liberals also warned that Reagan's tax cuts would result in economic ruin. Instead it gave us the longest sustained level of peace-time economic growth we have ever seen. The booming economy of the 1990's was not a result of Bill Clinton's policies. It occurred because for the first time since the implementation of the income tax an entire generation was spared the oppressive tax rates Reagan inherited. (The top marginal tax rate when Reagan took office was 70%!!!). Sure, there have been recessions - there always will be. But neither our nation nor the world would have enjoyed the economic prosperity it has had if we would have we followed the path of McGovern and Dukakis.
Conservatives have every right to be proud, and every reason to fight for their beliefs. That the party of Goldwater and Reagan has to placate the likes of Lincoln Chafee, Arlen Specter, and the rest of the RINO's infuriates me. The fact that leftist kooks like George Soros, Michael Moore, Barack Obama, Howard Dean, and Hillary Clinton have as much influence on American political thinking as they do is infuriating. Their ideology has failed every time it has been carried out. The only reason they have the power that they do is because conservatives have been intimidated into compromising their principles.
I will not be intimidated.
