When not blogging, I direct the Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL’s) international marine conservation projects that increase the capacity of marine recreation providers, marine protected area managers, and local reef communities to work collaboratively towards coral reef conservation.

Malaria, Bedbugs, Sea Lice, and Sunsets was launched in 2006 partly as a response to friends and colleagues who-upon discovering that my job regularly takes me to places like Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Hawaii, and the Caribbean-would reliably think my work is one long tropical vacation.

In fact, my field work involves a lot of waiting in airports, slathering on DEET, avoiding malaria, flop-sweating, banging spiders and cockroaches out of my shoes, pacifying irate stakeholders, and the occasional rum drink.

And I wouldn't change a thing.

Hope my blog conveys my somewhat askew view on life and my love for the ocean and its conservation.
