William Renzulli has managed to successfully pursue two careers by dividing his time between medicine (board certified in internal medicine) and art. In 2002 he moved to the growing artist community in Paducah, Kentucky, where he now devotes all of his time to art.
After completion of his medical training and two years of military service Renzulli opened his practice of internal medicine in 1971, fully expecting to spend a lifetime in medicine. However after only a few years he found himself being pulled in a different direction, leading him into a journey that would change his life in ways he could never have imagined. In 1981 he left his medical practice and for the next 12 years worked part time in emergency medicine as he pursued a career in art. In 1993, as a result of what he calls “an itch that had to be scratched’, Renzulli returned to medicine full time, opening an office in one of the barns on his small farm in Maryland. With his RN wife, Patience, working at his side, he spent another 9 years practicing medicine full time, with art relegated to a weekend pursuit.
