I’m sorry I didn’t have time to blog in December. It was a busy December, but I did enjoy family time! I love Christmas that is my favorite holiday! I really enjoyed the time I spent with my brother, I have not seen him much in the past due to his service in the military. I want to take this moment to thank the military. My brother is a veteran who suffers from PTSD. He was home for Christmas and that was the best Christmas present ever! I never understood what was going on with him but now I have a better understanding of his condition and how he suffers. We went out for some evening fun and he shared some of his stories. When he was sharing his stories with me, I had many different emotions going on in my mind. It made me think about life and what is important and what’s not! Appreciating the small things in my life, such as being able to sleep, being able to be in crowded places without having anxiety or fears!
My brother lives with PTSD every day, and receives little help for his condition. It makes me upset knowing that our veterans don’t get the help they need when they return home. He must wait many weeks before being seen by a doctor and all the hoops he must go through just to get his veteran pay! We take for granted being able to go to a doctor anytime we want, and get paid without having to jump through red tape. We get our disability insurance and retirement money without hoops to jump through. There is something wrong with that picture! I also think the families of our wounded warriors need help to better understand what their loved ones go through. We complain about things in our lives, and we don’t appreciate the simple and beautiful things in our life. What I’m trying to say is that we need to appreciate the things we can control. We can’t control everything in our life, but we can live in the present moment with our family and friends, and appreciate the simple things. We can control out attitude and how we react to certain situations. We must learn to stop sweating the small stuff, enjoy life, be kind to others and be happy.
Now that we are in a New Year, many people are going to make a new year’s resolution. It is very common for people to have a resolution focusing on “weight loss” which I think is an over utilized term. I believe we should appreciate the small things in our life, live in the present moment, being mindful and thoughtful of others, being kind to each other, giving back to others in need and loving ourselves even at our worst. If you’re making a new year’s resolution here is my tip for you. Take small steps to smart change!

Here’s my take on a SMART goal; when you’re about to sit down and write your SMART goal(s) remember one thing, it’s about “taking small steps to SMART change.” Let me break it down in sassy style!
S- smile (something that will feed your soul from the inside -out).
M-Motivation (It must keep you accountable and motivated to keep moving forward).
A-Acceptance (accepting failure when it happens and learning from it).
R-Rewarding (reward yourself; a lifestyle change is about balance and enjoying life)
T-Time (Make time to be present with God, yourself, family and friends – the important things in life).
When creating Sassy Mom Fitness I wanted to create a place for mom’s to be the best version of themselves, a non-judgment atmosphere, stop trying to perfect, let go and stop comparing themselves to others. It is important to the stop the dieting roller coaster that you have done most of your life, because life is more than just weight loss! It’s about feeling like you are enough, feeling at peace in your heart, mind and body and realizing there is more than just dieting. Fitness and nutrition are just one step to smart change! It’s about creating and helping mom’s feel balanced physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and living life each DAY with ease, grace and happiness. It is important to have the support you need when making a lifestyle change. Lifestyle change is a journey of memories (good and bad). We understand that there will be bumps in the road and we must accept the failures along the way. What will keep you motivated along this journey and keep you accountable? Don’t forget to reward yourself for the good you do. Having a balanced lifestyle is the key to happiness. Don’t forget to make time for God, yourself, your family and friends.
