There are all types of indoor workout machines from stationary bikes, treadmills, stair steppers and even free weights and machines. And yes, each of them can be a very valuable edition to your exercise regimen, no doubt.

But if there is only one machine to have or use, hands down it is an elliptical machine. An elliptical will give you the benefits of many different types of machines, yet it is one of the easiest machines to use that will build strength, endurance and is incredibly cardio efficient.

Non-Impact

An elliptical machine works for anyone, even people with bone or joint problems, where impacts from running or walking can be a problem.

On an elliptical, you never lift your feet. They stay in place at all times, so there are never any pounding jolts to your skeleton. For anyone with joint replacements or arthritis, nothing treats your body more gently than an elliptical machine.

Less Injury

Any time your feet are moving up and down while contacting the ground, there is always a chance for injury. Twisted ankles, sprained knees and pulled muscles are all a part of high intensity exercise where your feet and legs are coming down and striking the ground.

But since your feet never leave the pads on an elliptical, the chances for sprains, twists and muscle pulls become far less possible. An elliptical limits the threat of injuries to keep you healthier and in better condition whenever you use it.

Your Own Speed

An elliptical lets you go at your own speed. You can take it nice and slow, kick your body into a higher gear for a more spirited workout, or go all-out for an Olympic style training adventure that will get your pulse up to your target rate and keep it there for an extended period of time.

Of course, getting to your own speed is totally up to you. You are in control, so you can take it as easy or as strenuous as you like. There are few other machines with that type of versatility, but that is what an elliptical is all about.

Full Body Workout

The best workouts are those that incorporate your hands, arms, legs and feet, and that is exactly what an elliptical can do. The faster you go or the harder you set the tension, the greater the resistance as you pull back on the bars or move the pedals. You will literally work your entire body, top to bottom and everything in between, and get the best workout of your life, bar none.

You Owe It to Yourself

If you have never tried an elliptical you owe it to yourself to step on one and take it for a test drive. There is a reason why they are the most popular machines in the gym, and it's because they are the do-all machine that can't be beat, no matter what type of exercise routine you are in.
