Last week, I read a cartoon called, “Marvin.” In the first frame, a young mother had just finished reading the Christmas story to her young son. The lad had a puzzled look on his face as he sorted through the details. Then, he said to his mother, “Let me see if I have got this straight … Christmas is baby Jesus’ birthday, but I get all of the gifts?” The final frame shows the little boy with a satisfied grin on his face as he says to himself, “Is that a great religion or what?” Truthfully speaking, we do not have a great religion! We have a great Jesus!

Christmas is the birthday of the Christ Child and yet -- we as His disciples -- will always be the receiver of every good and perfect gift and Jesus would have it no other way! Wow! What a Messiah!

There is a verse that, for me, sums up the real meaning of Christmas better than any other verse in the Bible. In it, we find the ABC’s of Christmas. That verse is 2nd Corinthians 8:9, “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.”

The ABC’s of Christmas can be celebrated in those 31 simple words!

Church family, Christmas comes every year even if there are no presents, no decorations and no holiday goodies. Why? Because Christmas is all in the heart. It is not in the snow that may or may not blow. It is not in the gifts around the tree. It is in the love heaven gave that night our Savior came, and that same love can still be found wherever you are because Christmas is all in the heart.

A Savior has been born in Bethlehem. Jesus has come to set us free! Your paid staff and their families desire to say, “Merry Christmas!” We love you, and we want you to know that after Jesus, you are our most precious Christmas gift.
