Very sensitive people can feel other people’s feelings. They don’t mean to, they just do. For them it is as natural as breathing. If they can’t feel what is going on around them it is like being blind and they can’t find their way. Sensitives are highly aware intuitives who use what they feel as a way to modulate their responses when dealing with other people.

Very sensitive people are a type of intuitive called clairsentient.

We are all born intuitive but not everyone is aware of this natural, innate gift. There are four types of intuition. They are: clairsentient, clairvoyant, clairaudient and claircognizant. Everyone has all four but one will be more dominant than the others. In my private practice, clairsentients often report that they had a parent who insisted that they conform to what the parent wanted or expected. Unknowingly, this heightened their natural ability to feel (clairsentience), subconsciously. They quickly learned that if they could keep the parent happy they would be loved. Feeling their parent’s moods and desires then became a survival strategy. Their parent was happy when they complied and they, in return, felt loved, accepted and safe.

Clairsentients don’t realize that they have taken their heightened ability to read people through feelings as a way to garner reassurance and approval into their adult life. As a result, most clairsentients use their natural intuitive ability to feel as a coping mechanism when they are out in public. The end result? They can often struggle with feeling any of the following: being overwhelmed, anxious, panic attacks, or overly fearful. They often cry easily or struggle with outbursts of anger. They are what we lovingly refer to as human Velcro – picking up everybody’s feelings and then they don’t know what to do with them.

Why do clairsentients react this way?

Clairsentients believe that if they can feel someone else’s feelings then they have either A) caused it, B) created it or C) have to fix it. They never ask if what they are feeling belongs to them or somebody else. They don’t understand how to feel others without taking on the responsibility for what they are sensing. They also haven’t learned that they are not responsible for how the other people choose to react.

When I first started to work with clairsentients I would glibly teach them how to shield or cloak their energy. They would report back to me that they didn’t like the fact that it made them feel cut off or lost. They couldn’t feel at all and that frightened them.

What is a clairsentient to do?

First, acknowledge that feeling your environment is how you cope. Second, when you do feel anything – ask yourself, “Is this mine? Or someone else’s feelings?” You will know if it is yours. You will be able to clearly feel it. If, on the other hand, it is not yours or you are not sure, then it is not your problem to fix. You did not cause it, create it or need to fix it because it is not your responsibility to fix the other person’s feelings. The third step is learning how to love and accept yourself without feeling the need to take on the responsibility of making other people happy. Just because a parent made you feel responsible for their feelings doesn’t mean the world does. We are all responsible for our own happiness, whether we like it or not.

We all have choice. We all have a choice in what we believe, think, say, feel or how we react. A clairsentient is confused by that. They are the feelers and the people pleasers who feel responsible for everyone’s happiness. It is no wonder they get exhausted and need to be left alone. It doesn’t take much for them to quickly go into sensory overload. Once that happens they don’t know how to detach from all of these feelings so they cry or get angry. Both of these emotional reactions are a way to clear out all the feelings that didn’t belong to them in the first place. I call this “discharging,” which is actually a subconscious energetic way to clear the emotional field of everything that has been picked up during the day.

Thankfully there are a few energetic techniques that are quick and easy to learn that help clairsentients cope without discharging in this way. One way that is easy and fast is learning how to do Cord Cutting with Angels.

Silently call in Archangel Michael, Imagine or pretend that he appears before you and see him smiling at you. As he stands before you, feel him surrounding you with his love and blessings. Ask the following: “Archangel Michael, please cut and clear all static and fear cords with everyone I have been in contact with on this day.” Then imagine or pretend he waves his blue sword all over your body and energy field from front to back. As he does so, all the static, fear cords, and negative energy you have encountered throughout the day are removed from your entire aura, front and back. When he is done, he will stand back. Thank him or say amen.

The entire procedure should only take about five seconds—Archangels, ascended masters, and teachers are all pretty efficient. If it is taking longer than that, then you are trying too hard or are too afraid you are doing it incorrectly. Not to worry. You have asked and he has given, whether you can feel it or not.

I recommend that it be done at bedtime daily. Often say to my clairsentient clients, “wash your face, brush your teeth, cut cords before bedtime every night.”
