You are awesome! No, really, you are. I know, you probably don't hear it enough, and that's too bad. Because you know what? We're all awesome in one way or another. The real question is, what are you doing with all your awesomeness?
I am Awesome
It took me a really long time to figure out that I am awesome. It shouldn't have. I've had dogs my whole and each one of them thought I was the most awesome thing in the world. I bet your dogs thought you were awesome too. Cats, who knows. I've had three cats and two of them have been complete bitches and only pay me any consideration when their bowl wasn't full or they wanted to be let out. The third one, Zelda, I think she thinks she is a dog and therefore thinks I'm awesome.
The problem is, we don't trust out animal's opinions of us. I'm not sure why. Maybe because we humans with our opposable thumbs are in charge of every aspect of their lives. We decide when they eat and when they go out. If I had a person in my life determining when I got to eat and go to the bathroom, I'd probably be kissing up to them as well.
Except I don't think dogs see it that. I think they just love us - every bit about us including the parts we find unseemly, horrible, ugly, and just plain wrong. Dogs don't care, they lick their asses, why should they care if you aren't a size 6 or if you don't make as much money as your neighbor? A little kibble and some belly rubs and it is all good.
I didn't come here to talk about dogs, I got off track a little. Sorry. Dogs are awesome, if you don't have one go get one, you'll thank me for it.
You are Awesome
You are awesome, we've established that, but what are you doing with your awesomeness? Are you letting that little spark of awesomeness burn bright for all to see or are you tamping it down so you don't have to do anything with it?
As Robin Williams said "You're only given a little spark of madness, you mustn't lose it."
And yet, most of us waste our spark of madness, our awesomeness, because we never let it take over and share all the glory with the world. Some of us do, you know one or two people who don't give a rat's ass what other people think. They do what they want and they don't worry about how other people are going to react to their actions. They're too be busy being awesome to care if other people agree with them or not.
We're at the end of the year and I bet most of you reading this made at least one New Year's resolution last January 1st, 2016. And I bet 99% of you didn't keep it.
What made you doubt your greatness? What made you think you didn't deserve to have all that you set out to achieve for yourself this year? What would have helped you succeed in your goals this year?
I'll wait while you ponder all this out.
We're All Awesome
The thing is, it's easy to be awesome, we all are. It's much hard to believe we are awesome and then to go out and show the world our awesomeness. That's scary.
It's scary because someone might say something like "you can't do that", "that will never work", "why would you do that?" and the worst of all of them "I would never do that".
I get it, it is scary. There are a lot of things I have chosen not to do because I have been afraid someone might say something like that to me. And I bet, you have too.
And that sucks because here it is almost 2017 and most of us haven't done much to make it a better year.
So let's not let that happen next year. You are awesome, there is nothing you can't achieve if you put your mind to it. It really is as simple as that. Believe in your awesomeness, that little spark of madness, it's there, I promise. I can see it, and the dogs can see it.
Now you just have to believe it.
